CRISP FRIED KING PRAWNS IN BREADCRUMBS

For this recipe we used FROZEN king prawns because they were in the freezer and we wanted to use them up. We've eaten this dish using fresh raw prawns, but we wanted to see what the difference was. The frozen prawns were still extremely more-ish, and the only difference
we could fathom, was the frozen prawn was not quite as soft and juicy.
Nevertheless, a very good starter - much better than the last time we had this in a pub. Because we used Panko breadcrumbs, often hiding in the spice aisle of the supermarket, the prawns were exceptionally dry and crunchy.
We believe the deep fried prawns contained less calories using Panko breadcrumbs because they soak up less oil. Before frying, each prawn is around 20 calories, we're not sure how the deep frying affects that number, but we would estimate our six deep fried prawns at around 250 calories. We cooked 12 and shared them. They were very very filling and six king prawns was enough. We dipped ours in sweet chilli sauce - which is also very low in calories.
CRISP FRIED KING PRAWNS IN BREADCRUMBS
Ingredients
Large raw prawns (defrosted if using frozen)
Plain flour
Salt/pepper
One egg - beaten
Breadcrumbs
Oil for cooking
****
Dust prawns with seasoned flour. If you want to spice them up, this is the time to do it.

Dip prawns in egg, then breadcrumbs.

Deep fry until golden brown - this should only take around two minutes.

This is a fantastic starter using store cupboard and freezer ingredients. When you have little time to spare, it's nice to be able to open the cupboards and enjoy some interesting food. Yes, the fresh prawns are softer, but we wouldn't complain if we were served up something like this!
