Steak and onion rings

STEAK, CHIPS AND ONION RINGS
It's been a while since we ate STEAK and CHIPS. A couple of huge home cooked onion rings replaced half the portion of our mighty chips. The hot balsamic tomatoes were deliciously sweet and sticky.
We like to eat a balance of foods - and if you take a look through our recipes/diary, you'll notice we eat everything. Our weight management system does not dictate WHAT you should eat. You get to choose your own food. Hopefully, in the end, you'll learn enough about the food you eat, to make simple lifestyle choices that will help you to lose and maintain weight loss forever. Interestingly, according to some weight loss theories, you tend to eat more the more varied your diet and therefore gain weight. However, we've found the opposite to be true. Why?
We have found that by allowing all types of food (that we love to eat) while losing weight helps to stop cravings. Normally a diet will dictate to you, telling you which foods you can and cannot eat - and subconsciously you end up missing those foods.
We also believe there is a biological reason for cravings too, and by removing certain food groups, your body could be missing a nutrient or two, and tries to let you know by craving certain foods.
So for us, we've found the wider the choice of food available means we get to have a good think about what we REALLY FANCY eating. We listen to our mind and our body, and at times I cannot fathom why I fancy something like eg red onions.
When we're tucking into a delicious meal, we don't overeat because it's not banned and we know we can have it again whenever we wish. It's like going to the buffet table and NOT cramming everything onto your plate! But, if you had denied yourselves certain food for some time, then that buffet table can act like a magnet. I've seen people returning from buffet tables with plates piled so high they can barely see over them. Isn't it better to have a little of what you fancy all the time? Let's say you're on a diet where carbs are banned or limited, it's quite likely you'll begin to crave those carbs, and eventually find yourself gorging uncontrollably on them at the next available excuse (maybe at that buffet party).
So - we fancied steak and chips - and that's what we ate Saturday night. Sunday was a different story - we fancied something much lighter and the day ended up being meat free.

BALSAMIC TOMATOES
Place some cherry tomatoes into an oven proof dish and sprinkle with a little salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar. Cook in a hot oven (around 170ÂșC) for around 20 minutes.
TIP
If you haven't made a sauce for your steak, then why not do what I did here - grate a little of your favourite cheese onto the steak and melt under the grill. I love blue cheese, and by melting a little on top of the steak, I save calories. Blue cheese dressings usually involve adding double cream.
